Do church leaders just copy each others sermons?

Post by dominic » Wed Dec 14, 2016 12:42 am

I was watching several different religious leaders on YouTube something that surprised me is that they all said nearly, word for word, exactly the same thing.

Do churches simply copy each others sermons/speeches?

Thanks for your question.

I want to answer it from several different directions since there are many things that could apply.

First:

There are some groups where the head organization office literally writes everything the other members are to say. At which point there will only be minor variations from one church to the next of those groups.

Second:

There are many sites online where a one can simply copy a sermon. This could explain some of the commonalities especially when there are the same questionably biblical statements being made by church leaders of different denominations. While they may sound good this also indicates that the speaker has not done their own research and is potentially biblically illiterate.

Third:

Let's suppose for a moment we have several people describing or talking about the same pine tree. Assuming they are describing the pine tree accurately, they are all going to be saying a lot of the same things. They may have different ways of saying it but the basic description and what they say about the tree is going to be basically the same. Simply because they are all looking at and describing the same pine tree.

This same logic applies to honest biblical teachers. All will be talking about and describing the same God and historical events. If we have accurately studied our history, use both ancient and current copies of The Scriptures regardless of domination we will be saying very similar things. Simply because we are describing the same God who as it very clearly says in The Bible is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Simply put this means that people who are teaching or talking about what The Bible really says, rather than what they want it to say, will be saying very similar things when talking about the same biblical topic or the same section of The Bible.

Thanks again for your question.
