What is the difference between Kufr and Kaafir?

Terms and word definitions as they relate to Islam.
[initially the terms are being brought over from our old board
"http://bbs.troach.net/viewforum(8).htm"
as there is a lot of good and important information found there.]
We will also be adding new terms from time to time.

As with the old board if we have made a mistake defining or describing any of the terms please let us know.

What is the difference between Kufr and Kaafir?

Actually I have been given two definitions for kufr, so I am not sure which is correct.
(hopefully some people that actually practice Islam will jump in and help clarify this.)

The first definition I found says:

Kufr refers to hiding, denying, or covering up the "truth".

The second definition I found says:

Kufr is the action(s) of the disbelievers.
While kaafir is the name given to the non-believer.
See:
http://bbs.troach.net/viewtopic.php?t=320
for a definition of kaafir.
the simplest way to think of it kufr is the verb, kaafir is the noun.

However, in some of the writings I have read kufr was used as the noun (referring to a person making deceitful actions, similar to kaafir), though that could be translation or typing mistakes.
