Malls, concert venues may be used to conduct systematic mass testing for COVID-19 —Gordon

May 5, 2020

Large venues where social distancing could be observed may be used as designated locations for systematic mass testing for COVID-19, according to Senator Richard Gordon on Tuesday.
In a statement, Gordon, who also chairs the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), cited for example the Mall of Asia in Pasay City and Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City as possible venues for collecting swab samples.
"The people can be seated on the bleachers, with people seated on the lower bleachers swabbed first, tapos pag natapos sila, bababa naman ‘yung nasa susunod," Gordon said.
"The PRC has pulled out all the steps para makapag-test, kailangan mabilis tayo kasi testing is the key. We have to ensure victory over the virus," he added.

To maintain a centralized tally of COVID-19 cases, Gordon said the outcome of the PCR-based tests would be forwarded to the Department of Health (DOH), which would then relay the results to the owner of the samples tested.
The PRC has at least three laboratories in Metro Manila capable of conducting 12,000 tests daily. It aims to establish around 20 laboratories for COVID-19 testing nationwide.
As of May 4, the Philippines recorded a total of 9,485 cases of COVID-19, with 623 deaths and 1,315 recoveries.
A total of 113,574 individuals have undergone the COVID-19 test across the country as of May 3, according to the DOH. --Dona Magsino/KBK, GMA News
