CISA’s Mis-, Dis-, and Malinformation (MDM) team is charged with building national resilience to MDM and foreign influence activities. Through these efforts, CISA helps the American people understand the scope and scale of MDM activities targeting elections and critical infrastructure, and enables them to take actions to mitigate associated risks. The MDM team was formerly known as the Countering Foreign Influence Task Force (CFITF).

April 12, 2022: Today, CISA released an updated set of Disinformation Stops With You infographics as part of the Optical Illusions social media campaign. False or misleading information can evoke a strong emotional reaction that leads people to share it without first looking into the facts for themselves, polluting healthy conversations about the issues and increasing societal divisions. These infographics include five proactive steps you can take to help stop the spread of disinformation.

These infographics are designed to help Americans understand how these automated programs simulate human behavior on social media platforms, and how bad actors use social media bots to spread false or misleading information, shut down opposition, and elevate their own platforms for further manipulation.
